The Saga of the Illuminations
by Stan Appleton

Ten Little Mini cars,
Standing in a line.
Adam hit the quarry wall,
And so there were nine.

Nine little Mini cars,
Racing for the gate.
Dick's clutch blows apart,
And then there were eight.

Eight Minis start the night,
Engines highly revvin'.
Sid falls into a ditch,
And so there were seven.

Seven tuned-up Mini cars,
Racing through the sticks.
Phil Senior pulls aside,
And then there were six.

Six buzzing Mini cars,
Just like bees at a hive.
Pete Tyson's driveshaft snaps,
And so there were five.

Five racing Mini cars,
Through the hills they tore.
Pete Horsburgh drops a valve,
And then there were four.

Four little Mini cars,
Racing fast and free.
Stuart Bankier's gasket blows,
Which leaves only three.

Three remaining Mini cars,
Is all that would get back.
So congratulations to you all,
- Geoff, Geoff and Jack !

(The moral is: If you wanted to succeed in this year's Illuminations then you needed a Volvo Amazon, an MGB or a Jowett Jupiter !)
