Feedback from the 2010 Hughes Rally:

My girlfriend and I were at a friends place in Kent a couple of weeks back when your Rally event was running. I managed to snap a dozen cars as they drove past. Wondered if you'd like to use them or pass them onto the owners ?  The photos can be found >> HERE
Kind Regards, Colin Bullen

Just to say another “thank you” to all of you on the Organising Team for a great day’s entertainment. This was my first “National B” rally win since I started rallying back in 1971 on Motoring News events so you can imagine how pleased I am!! With luck Jim and I will be back next year.  Ian Doble (Car 14 - MGB)

A big thankyou for a good event last weekend. We enjoyed it very much, despite the two groaningly big cockups we made. Tony Sheach (Car 15 - Triumph TR4)

Many thanks for putting on the Hughes and organising the weather for the day! Especially enjoyed the tests and regularity in Mereworth.

Thanks again,

Kevin Ablitt (Car 34 - Escort RS2000)

Just a note to say an enormous thanks to you and all the other organisers and marshals for a fabulous day on Sunday – it was a truly impressive operation; we loved every minute and Rory (14) was successfully tricked into an entire day of maths, geography and time spent with his Dad!  Thanks a million, John Scott (Car 41- Austin-Healey Sprite)

Thanks for the event, and sorry we had to rush off for the long drive home. We were surprised to pinch 2nd, as we were 3rd when we left! Fun tests, though I'm still useless on grass. Perhaps the naviagation was a little bit easier this year compared to last and there were some very long, slow sections, but a very slick event indeed, well done. Thanks, Simon Parson (Car 9 - Austin-Healey Sprite)

Many thanks to you and the Team for another exceptional Hughes Rally. Excellent route and tests, with the added bonus of so many cheerful marshals and helpers. See you next year.  Richard Dix (Car 17 - Saab 99)

Just a quick note to say thanks to you and your team for a great event. My first HRCR Clubman event which I  really enjoyed and I will be back for more once we have sorted a few problems with the Magenta.  Paul Stephens (Car 30 - MG Magenta)

- - - - - - - - - -

Thanks for a well organised and highly enjoyable event.  Nicholas Pope (Car 26 - Lancia Fulvia)

Many thanks for putting on another well organised event. Despite your concerns over marshals before the event it seemed pretty well manned to me, but I must admit Some people did seem to get a about a lot during the day! Please feedback thanks to all the marshals it is appreciated not collecting codeboards all day long. Thanks you also for the best turned out car award. The elbow grease and polish partly makes up for the alternator and clutch cable problems of late.  Paul Hernaman (Car 2 - Porsche 911)

Many thanks for a great event yesterday which we both thoroughly enjoyed , albeit we were very rusty as this was our first event since the "Poppy" some 15 months ago.
The route was good through what could have been a difficult area due to the number of houses on route and we only had one "concerned" resident stop us asking what was going on and that was on the transport section to lunch / fuel halt.  The tests were great and at least I only broke the handbrake this year and managed the farmyard at John La Trobe's without mishap. Well done again and lookng forward to next years event.  Lyle Cathcart (Car 20 - Volvo Amazon)

Feedback from the 2009 Hughes Rally:

Just to say what a great event, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Challenging but straightforward, just how it should be. Accurate and well marshalled, not even a nit picking criticism to make. Well done.   Simon Parson (car 11 - Austin-Healey Sprite)

Just a quick note to congratulate you and the other members of the organising team for an excellent event on Sunday – superb paperwork, cunningly designed route through some familiar country but with a different slant, fun tests without being too tricky, simple navigation even though I couldn’t get the spot heights to work until Charles pointed out that a road I thought was white was actually pale yellow! Just proves that to get a result, you don’t have to try and be too clever as some organisers seem to be these days.  Chris Powis (car 13 - Triumph 2000)

- - - - - - - - - -

We must tell you how much we enjoyed the rally - it was a brilliant event. You managed to throw in regs that looked straightforward but just a little bit different, enough  to get us exercising our minds a bit!! But this year we almost kept on top of it so enjoyed it even more.
Well organised as usual - shame you had a problem with the results. It was nice to have 'doable' handouts - meant we could enjoy the Sat night with friends and not get stressed in the morning. Lunch and dinner were good - everything went very smoothly - thanks very much and can you give our thanks to all the marshalls and other organisers for a good day out.  Thanks again Andy and to all your crew.  Jean Chmura (car 18 - Citroen DS)

- - - - - - - - - -

Thanks for an excellent Hughes Rally.  For Martin and I it ended with the worst possible outcome as we had been doing so well. Well-that's rallying!  can you pass on our thanks to all concerned and no doubt we will be back next year for another go.  Mick Briggs (car 3 - Austin Healey Sprite)

- - - - - - - - - -

Great day out as ever. It was a very pleasing result on a very well run rally. Chris Winter (car 6 - Volvo 144)

- - - - - - - - - -

Many thanks for another excellent Hughes, and very pleased that you have reintoduced a little bit of navigation (i.e.SH's) Not much, but enough for some!!  Please pass my thanks (and Roy's) to the entire team. Richard Dix (car 30 - Escort Mexico)

What they said about the 2008 Hughes Rally:

****************

My thanks to you and all the team for a successful and enjoyable Hughes Rally.  If there was a Spirit of the Rally award it should go to Simon & Mark Jarman (MGC), Trevor Hawkins & Simon Ingarfield (Saab96) and Doug & Katie Foreman (Triumph Herald) for stopping to assist us when we broke down. A big thanks to them and all the others who stopped to enquire if we were ok.  Tom Ash (car 36 - Austin A40)

****************

Thanks for another splendid Hughes. Mereworth just gets better and better. Regularities were just right and the tests were great! Keep it up we'll be back next year. In the meantime lets hope we see a lot of you on the next EAC.  Paul and Peter Brewerton - Dolomite car 34

****************

Well done Blackpalfrey , once again a fantastic event, not to be missed !   See you next year. Terry and Pip Secker (car 46)

****************

Can I congratulate you and your team for the organisation of another great rally.  The entry numbers show that you are giving the punters what they want.  May it long continue.  Ralph Lodge (car11)

****************

Let me congratulate you and your team on another superbly constructed Hughes Rally. An excellent balance of regularities (with confusing pauses!) and tests, especially the Mereworth complex. Your full entry was deserved and will be envied by other organisers.  Ray Crowther (car 28)

****************

We would like to thank you for an excellent rally today.  Not sure about the picture quiz as it appears lots of people missed some of the pictures however, all in all great fun.  We enjoyed Merryworth very much despite loosing a bit of time but it was fun trying to make it up!  Please thank all your wonderful team of marshals, after all without them we couldn't go out to play.  Now have a well earned rest!  Hope to see loads of you on The Regis in October.  Cheers, Ali Green & Ann Locks (car 31)

****************

Well done on another good event - most seemed quite jolly at the Granary - even if not all managed to stop at the astrides!  Andy Elcombe (marshal in charge of Tests 2 & 6)

What they said about the 2007 Hughes Rally:

Another cracking Hughes Rally - well done to all of you for all the hard work. James and I had another "could have done better must try harder event" as we both made costly mistakes! We will be back next year after some pre event practice - it would be nice to win on the 30th and 40th anniversary of my previous Hughes wins!  Lyle Cathcart

Can you please pass on our thanks to all of the organisers of this years event, the roadbook was perfect and for the first time in the UK we were able to enjoy a sporting days rallying without having to make up time at the start of each regularity while we decoded the instructions, much safer and you still had a very competitive event, brilliant, we will be back again next year.Nick Smith and Tony Beale.

Hello, I live on the route (Crumps Lane, Ulcombe). Nice to see the older cars coming past and being driven very well at such slow speeds, The speed of all the competitors was a lot slower than the locals who use the lane all the time so you should have no complaints from the not in my back yard people. Well done, look forward to the next one. Barry Adams, Footways, Crumps Lane.

Please pass my thanks on to all who organised, marshaled etc.  It was a good day out.  The start/finish & lunch venues were excellent, the regularities were interesting, pity I didn't do them justice, and the special tests, particularly the Mereworth Woods & Headcorn ones, were great. Regards Tom Ash.

To all concerned with the Hughes. Just to say thanks for a great rally - kept us on our toes all day long!! I must keep Warren quiet in future when he comments that timing points are too easy on HRCR events...............  It was really good fun and a thoroughly enjoyable day - many thanks to all involved, especially the marshalls, the organisation was great. Cheers Jean and Warren Chmura

Could you please pass on my thanks to your team for making the Hughes such a great event. I loved the varied navigational format and range of tests. Well done. We will be back next year.Ralph Lodge.

* * * * * * * * * *

Many thanks for a refreshingly different rally - plenty to "mull over" before next year! Richard Dix and Linda Orme.

Congratualtions to all the Blackpalfrey organising team and marshals for last weekends Hughes Rally it is one of the best events I have been on. Strightforward navigation, clear instructions, well organised, good venues and well paced. It was still competitive and proves that some of the mensa type navigation on some rallies is unnecessary. It is a good formula, we will be back next year.  Robin Shackleton.

Just to say "Thank you" to everyone involved. Excellent day out, good food and company. Note to selves - must try harder next year. Well at least our finish position was lower than our start number. David & Helen Brenchley.

Just got back home after the rally.  Had a brilliant day and would just like to thank everyone who helped organize the event. We didn't do particularly well, but thoroughly enjoyed the event, which was extremely well organised, with great food at lunch and dinner, and excellent route instructions and special tests.  Please pass on my thanks to everyone involved. See you next year! Best wishes, Peter Geering.

Yet another great event you guys put on, well done.  Val and I really enjoyed the day, the road book was excellent and the level of navigation just right - it was the speed changes that killed us! Thanks again and we plan to be back next year.  Regards, Graham & Val Gilmore.

Could you please pass on thanks from me and my driver, Glen Pearson, to everyone involved in organising yesterday's event.  The rally was very well organised and achieved an excellent balance of special tests and regularities which is not easy when you don't have a few old airfields or military ranges close to hand.  We particularly appreciated the variety of different navigation methods used and their non-cryptic nature!  The tests were also great fun, particularly those in the woods. Thanks again, Nigel Blackburn.

Congratulations on organising a fantastic event, even if we can't follow a marked map, and missed two IRTC and one code board, we still really enjoyed it, see you all next year. Regards Terry and Pip Secker (car30).

Hello everyone, thanks for a great day on Sunday. Super route and roadbook, faultless organisation and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Whats more, if you hold the result sheet upside down we nearly won it!! See you next year, Marytn Astley - car 34.
